POSITIONS

St. Anne Catholic Church, Columbus, Georgia, a vibrant and diverse parish with over 1300 families, has an opening for a Director of Music and Main Accompanist (Piano and Organ). The ideal candidate will be responsible for managing the Music Ministry, including selecting music, directing choirs and serving as St. Anne’s primary accompanist. This position requires musical proficiency in organ, piano and voice as well as a thorough knowledge of Church liturgical guidelines and norms. Reporting to the pastor, the position must promote excellent liturgical music, preserving the best of the past and most notable of the future. A Masters in Music is preferred with 3+ years of experience in a church position. All candidates should have a comprehensive knowledge of the teachings and practices of the Catholic Faith, demonstrate a passion for and a love of liturgical music, and possess strong written and oral communication skills.

St. Paul Church, Columbus, Georgia, seeks a Director of Music Ministries. St. Paul Church worships in the Wesley Tradition. We are a vibrant congregation of 800 active members seeking full or part-time musical leadership for the 21st Century. This position must work directly with a dedicated professional staff of clergy and lay persons to create and contribute to the spiritual worship through music.

The current worship life of the congregation centers around various musical styles offered in two traditional services and one contemporary service each Sunday. An adult choir, a contemporary worship ensemble/band, a children’s choir, and a handbell choir provide support during these services. This position will need to be able to work with others, oversee those groups and assist in the selection of music, as well as participate and/or oversee events focused on the music for our Church as a whole. The arrangement of guest artists may also be required to fulfill the worship needs of the church. 

This position reports directly to the Senior Pastor. The Church seeks someone skilled at conducting, as well as playing the organ, piano, and, possibly, other instruments. The playing capabilities may not be required if another individual can resume those duties for the Church.  Columbus is a culturally rich community. This position will need to work with Schwob School of Music, a part of Columbus State University, in augmenting our music program by recruiting professional instrumentalists as needed. 

The work hours are varied, but presence during the practices and services remains critical. The physical requirements of the position necessitate walking, climbing stairs, standing for at least an hour at a time. The Church will discuss and provide any reasonable accommodation that allows the individual to perform the essential functions of this position, provided it does not cause an undue hardship. 

Required Credentials: 

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Music 
  • A Master’s Degree in Music preferred 
  • 3-5 years documented success in a similar position

Job Posting: Director of Music and Organist, Covenant Presbyterian Church, Augusta, Georgia

The Director of Music and Organist is a part-time position (approximately 20 hours per week). For the right candidate, Covenant may consider creative ways to fill the position (such as shared position, adjustment to hours, or adjustment to responsibilities).

​Qualifications:

  • Professional level church musicians with at least three years in leadership positions of church music programs.
  • Bachelor’s degree required. Graduate degree in music preferred.
  • Proficient in organ and conducting choral music. Prefer experience with handbell choirs.
  • Commitment to Jesus Christ and his Church.
  • Ability to inspire, lead, and teach adults, children, and youth to glorify God through vocal and/or instrumental music.
  • Good organizational skills and capability to see tasks through to completion.
  • Good communication skills in working with all ages.
  • Ability to conduct professional activities with truthfulness, honesty, and integrity, and maintain sensitivity in matters of a personal or confidential nature.

Responsibilities:

  • Serve as primary musician for all Sunday worship services, funerals or memorial services, weddings, and special worship services and lead these services by providing well-rehearsed music.
  • Provide choral and/or instrumental music for all worship services to include regular Sunday services, seasonal services (i.e. Ash Wednesday, Holy Week, Christmas), and other special services. 
  • Direct and accompany the Covenant choir during weekly rehearsals, preparing them for their weekly musical offerings and holding extra rehearsals as necessary in preparation for special services. 
  • Direct and manage handbell choir(s).
  • Provide support and leadership for children and youth music ministry offerings.        
  • Develop the music portion of the annual budget along with the Worship Ministry Team for approval. Purchase music and supplies, hire outside musicians as necessary. 
  • Coordinate repair and maintenance of the 31-rank Zimmer pipe organ, carillon and control unit, pianos, and handbells.
  • Attend staff meetings and Worship Ministry Team meetings.
  • Oversee maintenance of the music library and library database.
  • Coordinate substitute organists when needed.
  • Participate in continuing education opportunities, in consultation with the Head of Staff.
  • Seek opportunities to make community connections and help to maintain Covenant’s visibility in and around the Augusta area.

Organist Position: First Methodist Church of Americus

First Methodist Church of Americus is seeking a skilled and ministry-minded organist to serve in our traditional 11:00AM worship service and support the music ministry of our congregation.

Position Summary
The organist will provide organ and, when needed, piano accompaniment that enhances congregational worship, supports the chancel choir, and contributes to the overall excellence of our music ministry.

Primary Responsibilities
o Provide organ music for the Sunday 11:00AM traditional worship service
o Prelude and postlude
o Hymn accompaniment
o Service music as assigned
o Rehearse with the Chancel Choir on Sunday mornings
o Offer special music periodically (organ solo, piano/organ duet, etc.)
o Serve as pianist when needed
o Participate in major seasonal services and events, including:
o Annual Christmas Concert
o Easter Services
o Occasional special concerts throughout the year
o Attend occasional Wednesday night choir rehearsals (typically covered by staff pianist)

Instrument
Our sanctuary features an ALLEN Digital Pipe Organ – Three Manual, 46 Stops (G330), providing a rich and versatile tonal palette suitable for traditional worship and concert repertoire.

Compensation & Benefits
o $250–$325 per week, commensurate with experience and education
